Our Story

James and I married in 2003. We set up house in a little town south of Birmingham, Al, in a middle class neighborhood, and started a family. We were ‘living the dream’ and thought we’d never leave. Change is inevitable, however, for both people and places, and as the years slipped by we became more and more disappointed by the changes we saw taking place in our beloved town.

In addition to what we were seeing going on around us, there were also changes taking place in our hearts and minds. We started asking questions about our food. We started doing research about self-sustainability. We started following people on social media who were living a very different kind of life, one that we decided we wanted to have, and ‘living the dream’ took on an entirely new meaning.

After twenty years in the same house, we closed the door forever on suburban life and stepped over the threshold of something entirely new. We bought a farm and so joined the millions who have jumped into the homestead life. It was quite miraculous, really. God orchestrated the entire thing – we had a list of what we thought we’d need for this new existence, (based on what the books and youtubers said), and He checked all the boxes, down to the smallest detail. Funny thing is, the more time that passes, the more we discover we’ve been given what we never would’ve though to ask for in our wildest dreams.

These things don’t just happen. We asked. God answered. That’s just all there is to it.
