Mentone, Alabama in 2003 looked a lot like it does today. I think this is part of the reason why people like to visit; It’s a tourist destination but still looks like someone’s home town. We were married at the Mentone wedding chapel (which we discovered looks exactly the same 20 years later) and had dinner at Cragsmere Manor, a restaurant that had been converted from an 1860’s farmhouse. It sits on the mountain with a breathtaking view. (It’s still there, but in August of 2012 it was sold and has since been renovated for private party use).

Ft Payne is home of the singing group Alabama. Lookout Mountain is part of the Appalachian mountains, and has stunning views and waterfalls, like the one at Little River Canyon. Alabama is one of the most biologically diverse states in the United States, and in my opinion, the northeast area has the most diverse plant life, contributing to the state’s beauty and a myriad of other highly sought after resources.

This is where our story began.
