Why ‘Traylor’ Branch, when our family name is Taylor? Because it’s meant to be two words in one.
The purchase of our property was done in two parts. Since the entire acreage had to be divided, new property lines had to be drawn to reflect which portion we were prepared to purchase immediately, and which one the previous owner would still possess, though she’d agreed to hold it for us.
The half with the house is wooded. There’s a creek that comes into the property from one side and flows across the width of it to exit on the other side. After the surveyor was finished drawing the new lines according to the agreement between us and the seller, he gave us our copy. From this we noticed for the first time the creek had a name – ‘Taylor Branch’. This naturally thrilled me to death, but we found out later it was a spelling error. It’s name is actually ‘Traylor Branch’. Close enough, right? So close in fact that it became the name for our farm; it’s a perfect blending of our last name with one of the property’s defining landmarks.
Almost like it was meant to be.
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” Jeremiah 33:3
